Late Summer Blooms on a Rainy Day

The previous owner of our house left behind so many wonderful plants that continue to surprise me.

Over the last week these two have really come alive - I have no idea what the top one is, but the bottom is a purple flowering ginger.

I especially love how these gorgeous blooms seem to thrive on neglect - they're both in parts of the garden that we've really ignored so far.

  1. I'm pretty sure the one at the top is a Bromeliad, they're amazing. Frogs like to live in water in the leaves and they just keep reproducing themselves forever. The original plant only flowers once I think but then all the pups it throws off will flower.

  2. Hi Greenfumb - thanks for the identification! They're amazing flowers - such gorgeous pops of colour.

I hope the offshoots continue to flower each year.

I'm not a huge fan of frogs but I suppose they do their part in the garden.

I was so sad to read about your Brahma :( I'm sure she had a good chooky life.
